Research Focus

Alan works with Technology Product Management & Marketing professionals along with the Customer Experience and Marketing Leadership professionals. He helps these business leaders on differentiating their companies through their marketing efforts and experience they provide. Alan's research takes two tracks. First, he researches which knowledge, models, and tools allow B2B companies to make customer experience a core competency and key differentiator. Second, Alan explores efforts of both B2B and B2C companies to be more "green" and the benefits of these efforts -- to both the vendor and the customer.

 

Previous Work Experience

Alan has more than 14 years of business and government experience in management, technology, and environmental fields. He also has experience working with commercial and government clients around the globe on architecting a positive user experience and linking the outcome of deriving increased value for customers and citizens and superior business results. Before joining Forrester, Alan led various strategic planning, performance management, and Web initiative efforts for the US government. Alan has been a technology, environmental, management, and performance consultant and was a technology analyst on some of the original Web efforts and designs. He has also implemented enterprisewide ERP and business systems and managed the accounting department for a Fortune 500 subsidiary.

 

 

Alan is quoted regularly in numerous business and trade publications, including BusinessWeek, The Washington Post, Government Computer News, Congressional Quarterly, CIO Today, Government Technology, and French CIO Magazine, and he is a frequently requested speaker on a variety of customer experience, environmental, business, and technology topics.

Education

Alan holds a B.A., an M.A. in environmental policy, and an M.S. in forestry/natural resources management from Colorado State University where he taught courses in technology, natural resources policy, and environmental policy. He has completed his Ph.D. coursework at The George Washington University in environmental management, technology policy, and applied quantitative methods.
