Description:
Discussions of Agile adoption often focus on issues around the methodology itself. Which flavor of Agile has the greatest chance of success? Why? Which elements of Agile, if missing, create the greatest risks of failure?
As significant as these issues may be, the larger question that remains to be answered is, how widely are development teams adopting Agile? And what explains the current rate of adoption, however high or low it might be?
Forrester's recent research into the topic suggests that these questions need to be rephrased. Development teams take a much different view of Agile than some Agile purists possess. The question is not "Are we Agile?" Rather the question is "How much Agile contributes to a mix of development techniques?" Agile adoption may be a qualitatively different approach, but it does not mean the complete departure of everything non-Agile.
