There's a lot of talk about Europe being "behind" in AI. The reality is more nuanced: While European firms lag somewhat behind in AI adoption, their attitudes to AI don't differ radically from those in other regions. Europe has plenty of groundbreaking research and innovative startups, although scaling up those startups remains a challenge. At both the individual country and EU levels, Europe is ahead in endeavors to ensure that AI applications don't cause societal or personal harm. To avoid future compliance breaches and potential fines, enterprises and software vendors alike must familiarize themselves with the AI guidelines available today as well as the proposed EU Artificial Intelligence Act.
