Al Krueger is a senior innovation and design leader with a proven track record of transforming how organizations approach customer, patient, employee, and clinician experiences. Currently serving as the Senior Director of Experience Strategy, Research, and Design Practice at Highmark Health, Al specializes in creating human-centered systems that balance the needs of the people providing, receiving, and supporting care in the healthcare ecosystem. 

With over two decades of experience, Al has led the combination, growth, and scaling of experience strategy, research, design, and innovation functions, along with founding and growing several of his own companies. His leadership has driven cross-functional partnerships, optimized collaboration, and enhanced strategic influence within Highmark Health. Under his guidance, his teams have achieved significant milestones, including successfully launching the Pulse Process, which has streamlined project prioritization, improved delivery times, and increased the visibility and impact of research and design projects. 

Before joining Highmark Health, Al held leadership roles at Advocate Aurora Health, founded a venture studio, and led a company that the studio spun out. He also established, grew, merged, and exited a digital and social media agency, where he honed his skills in human-centered design, innovation, and business strategy. His work has consistently focused on understanding and addressing users’ needs, resulting in more equitable, engaging, and accessible experiences.
