Small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) have greater choice of services, thanks to new cloud-based providers. SMEs overcome the fragmented experience of the existing market to find the services they need. Some SME service providers offer a unified view of accounts, anticipating a future where ecosystems dominate isolated services. To keep their relationships with SME clients, banks and disruptors must solve the complex problems that clients can’t address on their own. Open banking means SME clients won’t need to use the same bank for every service. Developing new financial services for SMEs will require taking some shots in the dark.
